Safe Schools Action Team Report Addresses Homophobia
The Safe Schools Action Team
(Ontario Ministry of Education ) recently released a new report looking
at Gender-based Violence, Homophobia, Sexual Harassment, and
Inappropriate Sexual Behaviour in Schools.
OK2BME was highlighted as one of three "excellent prevention programs, initiatives, and awareness-raising campaigns designed to promote healthy and equal relationships that are occurring in schools." (p. 18)
There are some great recommendations throughout the report aiming change at both the Ministry of Education and local school boards. Specific recommendations related to homophobia and gender-based violence can be found on pages 21-22.
You can view the report on the web at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/teachers/RespectCulture.pdf
OK2BME and K-W Counselling Services would like to thank the Ministry of Education Safe Schools Action Team for inviting our participation in this project.
