Dealing with harassment
Comments like, “That’s so gay!” and “What are you, a faggot?” have no place in our schools or in our community.
These comments insult members of LGBTQ communities and create a school environment that does not accept and support people’s differences. This is not a climate that people can learn and grow in. It needs to change.
If you’re getting harassed or bothered at school, the first thing that you should do is tell someone at school that you trust. This might mean a teacher, a guidance counsellor, or your principal. If you think that saying something might make the situation worse, ask the person that you tell to make the report anonymous. You also can ask a friend or an adult that you trust to tell the school about what is going on. If you don’t have someone around you that you feel comfortable talking to, you can also speak with someone at the OK2BME project about it.
Above all, reach out for some help. You don’t have to put up with harassment.
